The Detective Bureau is the investigative branch of the police department. When citizens report crimes, generally a uniformed patrol officer takes the initial crime report and makes the arrest of any suspects present. When suspects are arrested, the law requires the case to be filed within 48 hours with the District Attorney's Office. The completed report is then routed to the Detective Bureau where it is analyzed to determine what additional work needs to be done. This may require analyzing evidence, contacting and interviewing witnesses, preparing and serving search and arrest warrants, contacting and coordinating with outside agencies, and many other activities. |
