Gary E. Pia was elected as the City Treasurer of the City of South Pasadena in November 2011.
 
Before founding G. E. Pia & Company (an independent, fee-only, registered investment advisory firm) in 1989 he worked for a major stock brokerage firm (Merrill Lynch), a major life insurance company (Transamerica Occidental Life) and a small regional stock brokerage firm.  This background provides unique insights and perspective to his work as a wealth advisor.

Mr. Pia has also been very active in civic and nonprofit activities.  An active volunteer for the American Cancer Society (ACS) for the past 22 years, he is a Past Chair and Honorary Life Member of the Board for the California Division.  He is currently the Chair of the Society’s National Investment Committee.  Mr. Pia also sits on the Advisory Board of the Pacific Film Foundation.

He is also a member of the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and is a past chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.  He has served the South Pasadena Unified School District as a member of the Budget Advisory Committee, the Real Property Advisory Committee.  Mr. Pia is a Past President of the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and a former advisory member of the FPA's National Board of Directors.  He is also a former member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association.  He has coached in the South Pasadena Little League.  He was given the Arroyo Vista PTA’s Honorary Service Award twice.
