Mike Ten
Mayor Pro Tempore

Mayor Pro Tem Ten was elected to the City Council in March 2003 and was re-elected in 2007.  He previously served as Mayor Pro tem in 2003-04 and as Mayor in 2004-05. Currently, he serves as Mayor Pro Tem/Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Vice Chair 2009-2010 and will serve as Mayor/CRA Chair 2010-2011.

Mayor Pro Tem Ten serves on the Ad Hoc City Council and South Pasadena Unified School District Subcommittee. He is also the alternate representative on the SR-710 Tunnel Technical Study: Steering Committee.

In the region, he is the City’s representative to the Arroyo Verdugo Subregion Steering Committee and the Foothill Workforce Investment Board.  He represents the City on the Gold Line Phase II Joint Powers Authority Board. Since 2006, he has served as District 36 representative to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).  He also serves as the alternate on the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments.

Mayor Pro Tem Ten set both short- and long-term goals for his council tenure. Short-term goals included: minimizing the effect of the Gold Line on neighborhoods, and improving resident participation in the setting of City goals. In the long term, he hopes to see the City Council revitalize the downtown and Mission District, expand city facilities and services, separate the Community Redevelopment Agency from the City Council, and improve coordination of resources between the school district and the City.

A graduate of California State University-Los Angeles, Mayor Pro Tem Ten holds a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University. He is an industrial engineering supervisor for UPS, and has been with UPS for the past 28 years. Mayor Pro Tem Ten has been a South Pasadena resident since 1966, graduating from South Pasadena High School in 1975. For more than 30 years his family owned and operated the Dragon Pearl Restaurant, a local favorite located at Avenue 60 and Monterey Road in Los Angeles, adjacent to South Pasadena.

Mayor Pro Tem Ten and his wife Helen are the parents of three children, David, Nathan and Tiffany, all of whom attend or have graduated from South Pasadena schools.
