  • The Library was founded on September 10, 1895 and is governed by the Library Board of Trustees whose members are appointed by the City Council.

  • The first library building was built in 1907.
  • It was then expanded on the current site in 1930.
  • In 1982 the Library was expanded again. The Community Room portion of the existing structure, that now makes up the Community Room, was the entrance to the historic library.
  • The Library's existing square footage is 24,500 square feet.
  • The collection size is approximately 125,000 titles
  • During the 2005/2006 fiscal year the Library circulated more than 350,000 items, of these more than 168,000 were children's materials. In addition, more than 120,000 items were used in-house.
  • The Library is open 57 hours per week, 7 days a week for a total of more than 2,900 public service hours per year.
  • The Library staff consists of 39 or so staff members who comprise the equivalent of about 20 full-time employees.
  • Free public access computers are available in the children's, teen, and adult areas of the Library. Free WI-FI access is available as well.
