On Thursday, July 23rd at 7 p.m. the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room will showcase illustrious National Bestselling author John Dean for a return Author Night engagement. About two years ago he made a scintillating presentation to a large and appreciative audience at the same location on his then-bestseller Broken Government. The free program will be presented by the South Pasadena Public Library and the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and will open with an invigorating set of jazz by the Fuzzy Logic Boptet.
John Dean will discuss his just-published memoir of Watergate, Blind Ambition: Updated Edition: The End of the Story. Dean’s definitive insider account of the Watergate scandal, has just been released with a powerful new Afterword. Dean appends his original bestseller with new revelations and details that answer persistent questions that have lingered since the original investigation. The new Afterword, an extended essay, explains with clarity why and how a bungled burglary at the Democratic National Committee unraveled Nixon’s presidency.
Out of print for more than two decades, Blind Ambition was republished on the 37th anniversary of the infamous Watergate Break-in. Ironically, its release was launched at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA, now operated by the National Archives and Records Administration. Blind Ambitionwas a NY Times Bestseller for six months after its original publication and is still considered a conclusive and reliable chronicle of the scandal that undid a presidency
Dean served as the Counsel to the President under Richard Nixon. Over the years, he has become one of the nation’s most respected political commentators and has written extensively on law, government and politics. Before becoming White House Counsel in July 1970 at age thirty-one, Dean was Associate Deputy Attorney General of the United States. He also served as Nixon's White House lawyer for a thousand days. The author of ten non-fictions works, Dean’s most recent NY Times bestselling books include, Worse ThanWatergate and Conservatives Without Conscience..
The L.A. based quartet known as the Fuzzy Logic Boptet features sax player Robin Rader and touch style guitar artist Jim Wright. The group pays homage to the innovators of the bop and post-bop eras with the music of Dave Brubeck, Wes Montgomery, and Thelonious Monk. The group also includes Polly Klemmer on piano and synthesizers and Dave Sanford on drums.
The Library Community Room is located at 1115 El Centro Street. No tickets or reservations are necessary. Doors open at 6:30 and refreshments will be provided.
