The South Pasadena Police Reserves offer a challenging and fascinating opportunity for men and women to serve their community in the field of law enforcement.

The mission of the Reserve Forces is to aid and assist the members of the regular department in any way possible in providing law enforcement services to the citizens and visitors of the City of South Pasadena.

Under the direction and supervision of Regular Officers, Reserve Officers perform law enforcement and related duties as required. When officially assigned to duty, Reserve Officers have full peace officer powers for the duration of that assignment. Reserve Officers wear the same badge and uniform as regular officers and carry the same type of equipment.

The duties of Reserve Officers include the enforcement of laws of the city, county, and state; working either a one-officer radio car or as the second officer in a radio car patrolling assigned areas and responding to calls for the protection of lives and property; investigating crimes; making and assisting arrests of law violators; preparing reports of activity; testifying in court; traffic control; prisoner transport; special details such as parades, sporting events, dances, special events or functions, and other community related projects.

The South Pasadena Police Reserves also perform special duties such as bicycle patrol, warrant service, special enforcement teams, and ABC. South Pasadena Police Reserves are required to attend and satisfactorily complete a P.O.S.T. approved academy for Reserve Officer training prior to being appointed. Upon successful completion of the academy, Reserve Officers continue under field-training conditions for 500 hours of patrol, at which time they may be promoted to higher levels.

This volunteer position requires no special background in the field of law enforcement, only a willingness to serve the City of South Pasadena. Reserve Officers are required to work a minimum of 16 hours of patrol per month. In addition, they must attend a monthly training meeting, monthly range qualification, and participate in special details, such as those described above.
