A beautiful Southern Oak tree was planted recently in Garfield Park near the picnic area as part of Earth Day festivities celebrated by the Natural Resources and Environmental Commission. The tree replaces a Coast Live Oak tree that fell over following the heavy rains in 2004. Chair David Beadle of the NREC said “We lose approximately thirty city trees a year to disease, decay, and acts of nature. That doesn’t include the trees that are illegally removed on private property around the city annually. Whenever we plant a new tree in the city, it is not for ourselves, but a gift to future generations of residents of this town, for their shade and pleasure.” The Commission would like to remind residents to donate and plants trees in South Pasadena. |
